For My Princess

Of all the frogs in all the world,
she picked him up to kiss him.
Because he'd tried so very hard,
afraid that she would miss him.

But since no transformation came,
his task was not completed.
And he would try for all his life,
to be the prince she needed.

The frog was just a poet, but she didn't need a poem,
so the rhymes dried up and waited for the tears.

But the frog was just a poet; when he couldn't be a prince,
he wrote the words he needed her to hear.

"I am just what I am, and though,
I reach what I can get to,
How can you never know how much I love you?"

"I try so very hard but some
bad days are hard to get through,
How can you ever know how much I love you?"

Of all the frogs in all the world,
she picked him up and kissed him.
Because he tried so very hard,
that she could not have missed him.

And though no transformation came,
she would not be defeated,
Because she knew he could be all
the prince she ever needed.
